So I had my LED back-up lights for a couple of weeks and have been looking at a solution for my OEM taillights (that just hang out there waiting to be pulled or ripped off when wheeling). I happen to see a little ad on Facebook one day of a new product that fit the bill PERFECTLY! RockRidge 4wd based in Wenatchee, WA has an inexpensive kit out for all you JK fans, that doesn’t require buying crusher corners first. Check them out, the kit is well thought out and promises to get better.
The kit includes; 2- 4 Inch LED Taillights (Red or Clear w/red LEDs), 2- Rubber Grommets 2- Plates (to replace to stock lights) 2- High Intensity 7/8 inch Clear Button lights for use when backing up As well as the hardware to mount them and wiring harnesses. All for $150, now being a tight @$$ I looked to see if I could make my own for cheaper, and the answer was I couldn’t so I jumped in! It’s a brilliant way to clean up the tail of your JK, and not spend money replacing the ugly OEM housings.
The only thing that would make the kit better would be the addition of some butt connectors/splicers and having the hole opened up a little more on the top and bottom, as the radius from “wrapping” around the tail causes some tightness. I spoke to Jeff at RockRidge today, who assured me the kit will continue to improve with age. Have a look for yourself, these were installed in a couple of hours (I was on duty at the fire station, so I got interrupted a few times), and really tightened up Julia’s backside. A look at each side first the left,
And then the right…
I confess, I blacked out my “lil back-up LEDs” because as you can see I already have a lot of light to throw around when in reverse. You can get yours by following the link above or contacting Jeff by phone at 1-888-411-8493, they are open M-F 9-5 PM Pacific. Be sure and tell them you saw this post or that Lance sent you!
