Spring Snow Run in the Ahtanum May 5-7, 2017

aka Makayla’s Birthday Run Spring wheeling in the Ahtanum for Makayla’s annual Birthday Run, as you can guess has become an annual event catching the assumed last of the snow and marking the changes towards summer. However this year that snow lingered almost into June in many spots, no problems for the prepared crew we had along for this trip.  Friday night we all arrived and set up camp in our cozy rigs with temps down into the 30s overnight. May 6th, 2017 We started the next day with 13 rigs and ended with 12. Lots of laughter...

Northridge 4×4 Pics from Strike Ravine

We spent the day on Strike Ravine with The Northridge 4×4 team as sponsors. We didn’t take many pics because our group was large and we were moving fairly quick. Luckily Northridge had their photographers out taking shots, and these are what they got of our...

Moab EJS 2017-10

4/15/2017 Going home… This was my third trip to Moab, once on the bike and now twice with the Jeep and every time it’s time to leave I’m sad. Moab is a beautiful place, every direction you turn there is a different landscape, soil, weather, etc. It’s very picturesque, and generally just a fun place to be so leaving there is difficult to put it mildly. So I needed to get things wrapped up for the trip home, so I loaded and tied the Jeep down, disconnected the RV, closed the slides and dropped the jacks and we were rolling. The others were...

4/14/2017 Day 9 Rusty Nail/ Gold Bar Rim.   The day started like normal getting the cooler packed up and things put in their place before heading out to a familiar starting point up north of town, where we started for Metal Masher. We aired down and started back towards Gooney Bird Rock, and jumped off on to Rusty Nail. Today with my new gps card I would lead and let Mike follow, as he had led nearly all of the other trails. Trouble was, I hadn’t had time to figure out where these trails were found in the gps but quickly sorted that out. We...

4/13/2017 Day 8 Arches National Park and the Vendor Show.   We got up and got a leisurely start to the day rolling through town up to Arches National Park, finding a long line of cars already inching their way in. Much to our surprise entry was free due to construction delays. We had decided the day before to hit the park early as the crazy wind gust were going to be back in the afternoon. We went in stopping along the way to get some pictures and after the window arches decided to speed things along to get back on our timeline of dropping...

4/12/2017 Day 7 Kane Creek Canyon/ Dead Horse Point Kane Creek Canyon is incredibly beautiful, Bryan and I actually stayed on that side last year and had a good time, but we had dry camped for the week. The trail although didn’t appear very challenging at first glance. I’d watched a few YouTube videos, that talked about it being an easy day trail crossing Kane Creek some 50 times. We had lunch in the canyon about 5 miles from our exit point. Right after lunch we swooped a group from California, as they were just starting up after their lunch....

4/11/2017 Day 6 Strike Ravine (Sponsored Run – Northridge 4×4) This morning we could sleep in a little extra, until the construction guys showed up, because we were meeting up like 3 blocks from camp. So after our first leisurely morning we got lined up for the trail which would take us south on Hwy 191. About 11 miles out of town we jumped off on the left on Yellow Circle Rd and gathered up for the airing down and a driver’s meeting. After a quick air down and reprogramming my Bully Dog to Off Road Mode, we had a driver’s meeting...

4/10/2017 Day 5 Rose Garden Hill (Sponsored Run) We awoke to the construction next-door the the KOA (new condos), and everyone gathered their daily needs and we cruised back to our familiar meeting spot the park and ride at the north end of town. Here we got checked in for the run along with 25+ other rigs. The plan from our leaders of the day was to traverse about 25 miles of highway 128 and turn off on Onion Creek Rd, where we would air down and gather for a driver’s meeting. And we were off, although with this many rigs, it wasn’t a very...

4/9/2017 Day 4 RS 4x4s on Metal Masher We all got up and met at the park and ride at the north end of town, as we pulled in Carl noticed something wasn’t right with his clutch. Apparently I wasn’t the only one with bad luck, they decided to stay in town and drop his YJ at Moab 4×4, while the rest of the group headed north to catch the trailhead, along with a couple of other friends Don Man, and Jim Mueller. Metal Masher was open for the day meaning it wasn’t reserved for group runs for the event, but it wasn’t empty, we ran across a few...

4/8/2017 Day 3 (or Day 1 for Mandi) The basic plan I had in my head was to hang out locally awaiting Mandi’s arrival at the Canyonlands Airport just outside the north end of town. However she wasn’t due to arrive until 2:20 pm and the rest of the group was gonna hit Top of The World, and after some discussion, I believed I could tag along and bust out early and grab Mandi then maybe catch up to the group. First mistake, never go with plan b when plan a was solid. Second mistake falling asleep with my green lights on with a 5 year old battery....
