Texas Relief Trip – Epilogue

Having spent only 9 days in the area, likened to a war zone we were both physically and mentally exhausted, making our time seem more like a month. We had accomplished many of the goals we set out, and things seemed to be coming back together for the area. Power and water were being restored to many parts of the area. Roadways (secondary roads) were being cleared of debris, and regular supplies were starting to reach the area. As exhausting as the work had been we would have done more, but it was time for us to head north back the WA. Tuesday...

Port Aransas TX

Today we ventured over to the island town of Port Aransas, TX they were on the very front end of Harvey’s landfall. They still have a curfew, and while we were okay to take the ferry over we were required to stop at the make shift civic center/ FEMA HQ, to check in. All volunteers are signed in, and their skillset is taken into account. Since we had our trusty chainsaw, they had plenty of folks’ requests stacked up. We were able to help a handful of property owners cut away some broken or partially removed palms, and trim up one...

Touring Rockport… So this morning we woke up early to take a little field trip over to Rockport Texas, ground zero for Hurricane Harvey’s first landfall at Category 4 strength. We shot quite a few pictures of the town, and remind you this is two weeks post Harvey’s departure. The damage is surreal, one glimpse of hope we saw a News van doing a report on location in Rockport.   A debris field in between Hwy 35’s north/south lanes Debris collected and temporarily held in between the lanes of Hwy 35. We’re Home...

AP Texas 2

The last few days here in Aransas Pass TX, have involved cleaning up debris, cutting down fallen trees, fences etc. and starting piles, some end up along the roads, while others are contained to yards in hopes the local authorities will lift or suspend the burn ban that was ironically put in place before the hurricane. The chainsaws have been worked very hard to say the least. Day One While most of the team was working Mesquites in the back lot, the rest of us were fighting with a creosoted light pole, that got the better of us this day...

As I mentioned in the previous post, no news agency is paying any mind to the folks hit the hardest by Hurricane Harvey. Now many wonder why some of the locals aren’t posting up and sharing? The sad reality is they are so busy trying to get things back to normal few if any have had the time to share, let alone enjoy the luxury of a computer and internet…   So we grabbed a few pictures below showing just how many people were affected, and this is simply the tip of the iceberg. We’ll add more in coming posts.   Many...

Aransas Pass TX

So instead of vacationing with family in Yellowstone National Park, Mandi & I decided we would help our friends in Aransas Pass TX with recovery after Hurricane Harvey destroyed their little slice of paradise. The logistics and expense would be brutal at best and was well beyond our means, but we committed to being part of a team of friends and family members totaling about a dozen of us. I remembered seeing a few fundraisers using GoFundMe, and started a campaign hoping to raise $5000. And friends, family, and complete strangers gave...

Olympic Peninsula Via Harley

We schedule our calendar each year in November (due to my work), and sometimes we have to guess when an event will be. Unfortunately, we guessed wrong as we had planned on attending the Pacific Northwest 4 Wheel Drive Association’s Trail Jamboree in our Jeep. We turned our blown weekend into a ride over to the Olympic Peninsula on our Harley. Along the way, Mandi grabbed some great shots of all the things we went looking for. We hope you enjoy her photography....

Pacific Northwest Bike Fest & Expo

July 6-9 we spent our time helping the gang from Boomtown Bikewerks put on a little show in Wenatchee WA. We got Jaded out amongst the big dogs at Pybus Market, and found these pics of her compliments of American Bagger Magazine, during the Baddest Bagger contest.   And a couple videos…    ...

Copper City Run

Where East and West Meet… Saturday we gathered at Little Naches Campground for what seems to be an annual sort of event. We had 7 eastern WA rigs and about the same from western WA. The original plan was to run some trails, but they were all still closed because of snow and run-off. So the group decided to head towards Bumping Lake and attempt to reach Copper City. We made it to within a mile and a half of the actual city (after clearing some blown down trees to open the trail), but had to turn around due to snow and ice, “This is...
